I fuckin hate church and their god. Forgot who posted this.

I am fucking tired of my church.
i am an atheist— an ATHEIST, i’ll scream it if i have to— because the church fucked me over really nice as a kid. long story.
but my mother, who is the most religious person you will probably ever meet, forces me to go every sunday. there is no choice. i can’t tell her to fuck off. i’m going.

the sermon today, in a church filled with 500+ people who all profess to believe in the qualities of love and goodness and forgiveness, was called “corrupt and proud of it!”
the preacher got up on the podium and started talking about the good old days. and look at the world now. he showed a picture of a gay pride parade, and my stomach churned. “you think, this is in california!” laughs are heard throughout the congregation. “yesterday in nashville, we had gay pride.”
he showed a slide of someone wearing a hijab. someone in a traditional sari. their pride.
he showed a video of the rational response squad. a man stood in front of his childhood church and said, “i am not afraid.

“you wonder,” the preacher said, “why the world is so messed up.”
he claimed that 30 years ago, homosexuality wasn’t even spoken about (and yet the stonewall riots happened when? and alexandre the great was totally straight, and don’t get me started on paedastry in ancient greece and rome, and freddie mercury and david bowie and everyone else that came out in the 60s were just little known names, right?). but now. now everyone’s just throwing the entire damn world a coming out party.
i want to know where this world is, thank you very much. because i want to live there. DAMN, if nashville is THAT accepting, i should’ve stopped wishing to move out years ago!

“you wonder,” he said, “why the world is so messed up.”
he started talking about the other religions, how they had lost sight of god. how god gave them over to depravity when they turned their backs on them. how the atheist with the pride to finally say that he was no longer afraid of the chains that once binded him, how he wasfree from everything he had been taught as a child, was given up onby god. god, who was supposed to die for him, gave up. an all powerful god gave up.

“you wonder,” he said, “why the world is so messed up.”
he talked the degrees of acceptance. shock (oh my god homosexuality!) -> tolerance (eh okay) -> acceptance (well golly gee i sure do love them homosexuals!) -> participation (I WANT TO BE GAY TOO). because obviously if you accept homosexuality you are a homosexual. and don’t get me started on how easy it obliviously is to go from a shocked old lady to a raving lesbian at a pride parade.

“you wonder,” he said, “why the world is so messed up.”
he talked of school shootings. of massacres. of people who shot their families, raped children, committed such heinous crimes as port arthur and virginia tech and everything else. “why do you think?” he said, motioning to his examples. “these people are proud of their depravity. you let them live in sin for too long, and this happens!”

“you wonder,” he said, “why the world is so messed up.”

and my response?

people like you.
